Following the Footsteps

of an American Legend

Born enslaved, but determined to live free,

Harriet Tubman made the dangerous trek to liberty.

Called the Moses of Her People, she returned again

and again, leading dozens of slaves to freedom.

We provide insights about the life and legacy

of Harriet Tubman and the surrounding history.

The Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad National Historical Park honors this remarkable woman and those who defied convention and the law to escape slavery. The state-of-the-art Visitor Center draws people into Tubman’s world as you experience the lives of enslaved people, their journey to freedom, and the challenges they faced adjusting to their new lives.

“…there was no one to welcome me to the land of freedom. I was a stranger in a strange land; and my home, after all, was down in Maryland, because my father, my mother, my brothers, and sisters, and friends were there.  But I was free, and they should be free.”

in Scenes in the Life of Harriet Tubman, 1868

“I was the conductor of the Underground Railroad for eight years, and I can say what most conductors can't say — I never ran my train off the track and I never lost a passenger.”

Harriet Tubman at a suffrage convention, 1896

HTT staff is honored to help with your travel and tourism needs. All of our guides completed the same training given to rangers of the Harriet Tubman National Monument and State Park. In addition to knowing Harriet's story, they are well-versed in the history and lore of the region.

We have a variety of itineraries to suit individual and group needs. We offer half-day, full-day, and overnight itineraries. These can be modified to suit your group.

We can also design tours that include other attractions and activities, like Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge with eagle-watching, biking and kayaking, a cruise on the Choptank River, or a BBQ crab feast (seasonal).

We have partnered with area restaurants and retailers to offer packages and discounts to our guests.

We look forward to welcoming you to

"I had reasoned this out in my mind; there was one of two things I had a right to, liberty, or death; if I could not have one, I would have the other; for no man should take me alive; I should fight for my liberty as long as my strength lasted, and when the time came for me to go, the Lord would let them take me."
