Harriet Tubman’s story is one of resilience, resistance, and an unbreakable connection to the land. This Friday, March 7, 2025, I’m honored to be joining the conversation at Taking Nature Black, where I’ll be speaking on the Land and Labor Acknowledgement Panel and participating in the Fireside Chat: Honoring Our Ancestors.
For those who may not know me yet—I’m Alex Green, co-founder of Harriet Tubman Tours, alongside my wife Lisa. Our tours guide people through the landscapes that shaped Harriet Tubman’s life. Harriet wasn’t just a conductor on the Underground Railroad—she was a master navigator of the land. The waterways, the forests, the night sky—she used them all as tools for survival and freedom. At Taking Nature Black, I’ll be diving into how history, nature, and culture are deeply intertwined. We’ll explore:
How Harriet Tubman used the land to guide her journey
Why storytelling keeps history alive
How we can honor those who came before us
This year’s Taking Nature Black Conference, hosted by Nature Forward, runs from March 5-8, 2025, and is centered around the theme "Reclamation & Resilience." It’s a space where environmental justice, history, and community come together—a space for everyone.
